Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist, and travel writer, widely known for his adventure stories and vivid imagination. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, into a family of lighthouse engineers but chose a literary path instead of following the family profession.
